Using Your CORE to Keep Your Lower Back Happy!

back core 2.png

At some point in our lives, most of us will develop lower back problems. Your spine is the passive support chain that supports your entire body.

To improve the active support, you need to approach it from the inside out!
Consider engaging your CORE muscles to help decrease loading of your back. Start with the deeper muscles of your CORE followed by the more superficial ones or “global muscles”.

A good place to start is by using your breath.
Take a breath IN for 4 seconds and allow your tummy to expand, followed by breathing OUT for 6 seconds and trying to drive the bellybutton towards your spine. You should feel tension like there is a saran sheet located on your lower abdominal area medial to the front of your pelvis bone.

Remember to position your ribs parallel to the pelvis ring. That means you have to drop the breast bone while breathing OUT and lengthen the entire back.

The next recruitment will be engaging the obliques.
Stay tuned for our next post!!!

Happy spring everyone!
